reviewed the linkages between sustainable tourism and ecotourism.
According to The International Ecotourism Society (TIES), eco-tourism is a “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people (1990).” [Diamantis and Ladkin (1999) ].
Ecotourism, based on rural and agro-tourism, may be a perfect stepping stone for the development of classic tourism also known as the “holiday resorts” type.
Victoria Sanagustín Fons (2011, p 551), who believes that the following actions should be taken in its development: • provide optimum use of environmental resources that are a basic element for developing tourism, preserving essential ecological processes as a contribution to care and preserve natural resources and biological diversity; • be respectful with socio-cultural authenticity of host communities, preserving their cultural, architectural, life assets and traditional values, in order to get better understanding and intercultural tolerance; • ensure long-term, viable economic activities, providing all agents with widely distributed socio-economic benefits, where new opportunities for stable employment should arise.
Sustainable development and its time derivative, such as sustainable tourism, although intuitively appealing, widely adopted by international organizations and governments, enshrined in legislation, are concepts that have been criticized because of their lack of precision due to the difficulties that have experienced implementation [Tao C. Fons, Jose Fierro Moseñe, María Gómez y Patiño, "Rural Tourism: A Sustainable Alternative", 2011, p.552 - 120 - FORUM WARE INTERNATIONAL SPECIAL ISSUE 1 (2011) Sustainable tourism seen as that form of tourism that meets the needs of present tourist regions visited, while protecting and enhancing opportunities for the future [Nistoreanu, 2011] is carried out in compliance with the following principles [Ionescu, 2000]: - environmental limits and standards, according to possible ecological redistribution of economic activity and reallocate resources so as to ensure the essential needs of life, but at the same time economic growth; control population, so population growth is correlated with the productive potential of ecosystems; basic conservation, sustainable development must not endanger the natural systems that maintain life on earth: air, water, soils, wildlife; equal access to resources and their efficient use, search for new technologies to exploit their resources before the end; carrying capacity of ecosystems to be within reasonable limits; finding solutions to ensure a certain reserve of resources; biodiversity conservation or ecosystem; minimizing the impact on the integrity of ecosystems; community control of development decisions affecting local ecosystems; the international political level agreements made by governments, will ensure compliance with development; economic viability will be ensured by increasing welfare and the observance of the economic growth; general management to ensure environmental quality.
It is based on the grounds that the development should meet the present needs without jeopardizing those of future generations [Nistoreanu, 2005]. Sustainable tourism and ecotourism are widely recognized as a means to strengthen local development, such as protecting the natural environment and cultural heritage of traditional and international resolutions [Castellani & Salla, 2010]. 2: Model of sustainable tourism Created by author based on documentation made during research by taking information from Sanagustín Victoria M.
