This gets old fast, and only continues to get older. On the minus side, you will constantly have to stand on a razor-thin line between making some real money-- which means taking your career seriously, an instant relationship-killer in the Bay Area-- and having the flexibility of a trust fund kid's schedule, since anyone you date will have gotten used to that at least once, and no matter what they say, they are always, always comparing you to it. If I wasn't making a lot of money up here-- and with the cost of living going through the roof, I'm no longer all that sure I am-- I'd be out of here in a heartbeat.
I never thought I'd say this, but to me it's a toss up now. I actually prefer aspects of so cal to the bay area now, a sharp departure for somebody like me.
Your friend should get involved in the community, join the Sierra Club singles hikes or a soccer or bowling league, and put himself out there. Also, farmer's markets, meetup groups like running clubs, YOGA classes (of course!!!! As you mentioned, though, if it's primarily a hook up the guy wants, then the attidude of shopping for a woman at a club is probably suitable.
Golden Gate Park has a singles event every week, at the California Academy of Sciences. If he thinks bars and clubs are the places to meet women, he's misguided. But, then, San Francisco would not have the best market/ratio for that. Just sayin', as mentioned in this thread, it's the demographics (along with population size overall) that will influence the 'type' of dating environment desired by the OP or anyone else.100% correct.
The US does have several cities with China towns and Japanese influence has been felt, as well.
Sometimes you'll hear 'east indian', but it's not as common. 'West Indian' which is Caribbean] And I have lived around the world and in many areas of the US, grew up on the east coast, etc.
